Meet David and Angie Whitener. They met in June of 1983 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Rocky Face, GA where David served as the Minister of Music. On December 10, 1983, they married and are now the proud parents of two daughters, Bonnie and Anne Marie, who now have families of their own. Bonnie and her husband, Heath Stanley, have two children (Hannah and Titus) and Anne Marie and her husband, Brandon Langley, have two children (Owen and Amelia), giving David and Angie four beautiful grandchildren.
David was born in Dalton, GA. He graduated high school from Northwest Whitfield High, followed by an Associate of Arts degrees in both Business Administration and Science from Dalton Junior College. He then attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated with a Bachelors of Textile Engineering and a Certificate of Computer Engineering. After college, David began a 15 year career with Shaw Industries managing plant operations in several locations in Georgia and also in Northern Ireland where he also served at Donaghadee Baptist Church.
In June of 1998, God allowed Shaw to move their family back to the U.S. where David continued working at a plant in Thomson, GA while also serving at Second Baptist Church Thomson. Shortly after in the fall of 1999, Shaw once again relocated the family to the Blue Ridge, GA plant where the family joined the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge.
In the summer of 2001, Shaw wanted David to move back to Dalton, but he felt that God had a work for him to do in Fannin County so after much prayer, he surrendered to the call into the gospel ministry and left Shaw. In September 2001, the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge called David as the Minister of Children and Youth so David enrolled at Luther Rice Seminary and graduated with a Master of Arts in Ministry and a Master of Divinity. In August 2005, after feeling that God was calling him to a different ministry, David resigned from the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge and, in January 2006, Hemptown Baptist called David as the pastor where he has faithfully served since.
